The Heavenly Kingdom

What does Jehovah want?

In a few words, Jehovah wants us to be in his kingdom!

Jehovah makes it clear what he wants in the Bible: he wants all people to return to him, and accept that he is the supreme ruler of the universe and the one true God. 2 Peter, 3:9, says: "Jehovah is not slow concerning his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with you because he does not desire anyone to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance." Similarly Acts, 11:18, says, "When they heard these things, they stopped objecting, and they glorified God, saying: "So, then, God has also granted to people of the nations repentance leading to life.""

He wants us to repent. Why? Because he does not want anyone to perish. He wants us to live, and for that he has shown great patience, so that we have a chance, in fact, many chances to change our behavior and gain his goodwill.

He even sent his Son Jesus to us so that we may gain his favour. The gospel according to John, 3:16 & 17 says that, "For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life."

That puts it very clearly, Jehovah wants us to have everlasting life, freedom from death!

Now everyone finally dies, no matter how important, how powerful or how rich they are. It seems to be the natural order of things, but that was not Jehovah's original intention. Originally, when Jehovah created man, he included two trees in the garden, which man had to take care of: the tree of the Knowledge of good and evil, but also the tree of life.

He was told not to eat the fruits of the tree of good and evil, but he was not told that he could not eat from the tree of life. It was Jehovah's original intention that humanity would eventually eat from that tree and live, and remain alive, and never die, but would take care of the garden forever, filling the earth with their descendants, people who would all serve him, the supreme god, Jehovah.

Jehovah is not someone who would allow his intentions to be contradicted, as the evil one tried to do when he convinced the couple in the garden to eat the fruit from the tree that Jehovah had said they should not eat, so we can confidently expect Jehovah to succeed in realizing his original intentions.

Jehovah's name means, "He causes to become," and that's exactly what he will do: he will cause his original intentions to become a reality. In addition, he says quite clearly that he will not allow anything to prevent it. Galatians 6:7 says, "Do not be misled: God is not one to be mocked." but that is what the wicked one did when he tried to interrupt Jehovah's plans. The verse continues, "For whatever a person is sowing, this he will also reap;" so the wicked one himself will be mocked and fail.

What about us? Will we reap God’s favour ? If we want to do so, and want to be included among those who will benefit from Jehovah's fulfillment of his original intentions, we must sow seeds that clearly show that we want to be part of it. We must believe that he will complete what he began so long ago, and we must have faith in His Son Jesus Christ and accept the opportunity that He has given us.
