The Heavenly Kingdom
What does Jesus want?
Jesus is the son of Jehovah, the God of the Bible, and he made it clear that he wants what his Father wants, that is, he wants all people to repent and receive everlasting life. It should be understood that the everlasting life would be lived here on earth, not in heaven as a spirit. John said this in his gospel, (John, 3:6) ""For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life. For God did not send his Son into the world for him to judge the world, but for the world to be saved through him."
We should not assume that Jesus did not want to do this. No, he made it clear himself that he was a willing participant. In fact, John, 1: 9-11, says that, "The true light that gives light to every sort of man was about to come into the world. He was in the world, and the world came into existence through him, but the world did not know him. He came to his own home, but his own people did not accept him."
Jesus also said (John, 18:37) that, "For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is on the side of the truth listens to my voice." Even when he was being put to death, he said, "For whoever does the will of my Father who is in heaven, that one is my brother and sister and mother." (Matthew, 12:50.) This shows that he agreed with Jehovah and believed that it was important for Jehovah’s will to be done.
The apostle Paul noted that God loves a cheerful giver in his second letter to the Corinthians (2 Cor. 9:7), "Let each one do just as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." We can be sure that Jesus did this, for when he was baptized by John, "After being baptized, Jesus immediately came up from the water; and look! the heavens were opened up, and he saw God’s spirit descending like a dove and coming upon him. Look! Also, a voice from the heavens said: 'This is my Son, the beloved, whom I have approved.'" (Matthew 3:16,17). God loves a willing giver, and God approved of Jesus, so Jesus must have been a willing participant!
This shows Jehovah’s extreme love and concern for mankind that he asked his only-begotten Son, who existed from the beginning of time, to come to earth as a human and bring us a message of love, repentance, and forgiveness. It also shows that Jesus had the same love for us and that is what motivated him to willingly participate in this, even though he knew it would result in his painful death. What faith he showed in his Father, Jehovah!
The question is, do we have the same faith in the promises that Jehovah has given us?
